IT jobs spread beyond B’luru, finds study
Mumbai: India is expanding its job employability in the IT sector beyond Bengaluru, the state that is acclaimed to be the country’s information technology hub. IT sector jobs, which were once confined to Bengaluru, are gradually diffusing to other cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Hyderabad.
In an analysis by Youth4Work, for software and allied services, Bengaluru (30%) still has the highest availability of job offerings. It is followed by Hyderabad (19%), Delhi (17%) and Ahmedabad (12%), while cities like Mumbai (11%) and Chennai (11%) are still low on this count.
For hardware engineering and allied jobs, while Bengaluru (30%) has the highest availability of jobs, Hyderabad (18%), Chennai (17%) and Delhi (17%) are fast catching up. However, Mumbai (14%) and Ahmedabad (4%) currently rank the lowest.
In terms of the number of youth employed in software, there is little difference between Bengaluru (28%), Hyderabad (23%) and Delhi (22%). In hardware, on the other hand, Delhi (26%) is ahead of Bengaluru (24%), which is followed by Hyderabad (20%) on the number of youth employed in the sector.
According to Rachit Jain, CEO of Youth4work, “Technology always evolves into something new and more advanced and there is a need for employees to refresh their skills from time to time.”
With IT industries adapting quickly to global changes by automation and technology, both public as well as private sectors are required to equally add to the sector’s development for the progress of the country. Fast advancement in technology infrastructure and increasing competitiveness among domestic companies are expected to accelerate technology adoption among the youth in India. The number of youth/people looking for jobs in these metro cities is comparatively more in software than hardware.
